UCT-2 inspected near-shore HDAS cables at Diego Garcia

February–early March 2014 · 110 ft of water · zinc anodes

Confirmed Seabee deployment. Construction Diving Detachment Charlie spent February and early March at NSF Diego Garcia on fleet moorings and Hydro-acoustic Data Acquisition System cables. Final task: inspect and repair two HDAS cables north of the lagoon in about 110 feet of seawater. That is not the 189 km / 1.5 km-deep HA08 North trunk.

Seabee Magazine, 24 March 2014 (photos dated 11 and 22 February): UCT-2 divers replaced more than 70 zinc anodes and installed 10 new stabilisation points on HDAS cables starting from shore, running to 110 ft, then plunging toward the lagoon floor. A Navy news item around 13 March 2014 reported the same inspection/repair language. Quiet Exodus reads this as means and opportunity to blind HA08. The depths do not match. UCT-2 was in recreational-scuba range on the near-shore run. HA08 North’s failed trunk lies ~189 km out and more than 1,500 m down — cable-ship work, not a dive team with zinc anodes. File both facts: the unit was there, on hydroacoustic cables, in the MH370 month; the published task does not reach the cable that actually broke. Whether any other unit or later ship cut the deep trunk is a separate, still-open question.
