CTBTO HA08 North at Diego Garcia went dark in March 2014
Cable break ~189 km offshore · South array kept listening
Confirmed by CTBTO. The northern hydroacoustic segment of HA08, off Diego Garcia, suffered a trunk-cable fault in March 2014 about 189–190 km from shore, more than a kilometre and a half down. HA08 South continued. North stayed silent for twelve years. A conventional splash in the southern Indian Ocean is not thereby erased — Cape Leeuwin (HA01) and HA08 South remained in the network.
Georgios Haralabus and CTBTO colleagues: HA08 at Diego Garcia worked from 2000 until March 2014, when H08N stopped because of a cable fault localised about 190 km from shore. CTBTO’s 2026 repair note restates a break 189 km out, sensors 1,200 m down in the SOFAR channel, cable ~215 km to land. Quiet Exodus treats this as an ‘acoustic blackout’ timed for MH370. Two controls. First, the southern hydrophones at the same station kept working, and HA01 at Cape Leeuwin is the array later used in published MH370 acoustic papers. Second, the break is a deep-ocean trunk fault, not a near-shore connector. The outage is real. A finding that it was cut to hide a crash is not established.
