The Search for MH370 — Journal of Navigation

Ashton, Dickinson, Hall, Roberts, Smith · Inmarsat · 2014/15

A NEW Trace! The FULL MH370 Story, so Far

Mentour Pilot · Petter Hörnfeldt · 16 March 2024 · 56:06

Type-rated 737 captain’s reconstruction from the 2018 report, Inmarsat BTO/BFO, and the Blelly–Marchand end-of-flight paper. Argues the transponder was selected off in two steps, not failed as a unit. Closes with a WSPR lead and a request to restart the search.

The Search for MH370 is Back ON!

Mentour Now · 24 March 2025 · 23:19

Follow-up on Malaysia’s 2025 Ocean Infinity restart. Recaps BTO as range and BFO as Doppler, the southern-arc choice, and overlays Godfrey’s WSPR figure-eights on a line through the captain’s simulator coordinates.

EvidenceOfficial finding7 Mar 2014 16:00 UTC

Cargo, including lithium-ion batteries

Manifest reviewed; fire hypothesis not supported

The aircraft carried cargo including lithium-ion batteries. The investigation found they were packed to regulation and did not support a cargo-fire cause.

ClaimUnverified

WSPR detections trace MH370 to ~29.1°S 99.9°E

Richard Godfrey’s latest published circle (radius 30 km, ~2,827 km²) has not been covered by an AUV launch. Earlier published points moved. Method is not peer-reviewed; the database is not independently auditable.

PersonConfirmed

Richard Godfrey

Independent · WSPR tracking

Aerospace engineer arguing Weak Signal Propagation Reporter anomalies trace MH370 to a ~2,827 km² circle near 29.1°S 99.9°E. End-points have moved. Method not peer-reviewed.

Why Planes Vanish: The Mystery of Flight MH370

BBC · tenth-anniversary feature · WSPR

BBC anniversary piece that brought Weak Signal Propagation Reporter analysis to a general audience. Richard Godfrey’s method is not peer-reviewed; the data are not an open, reproducible track.

WSPR anomaly set (Godfrey)

Ham-radio SNR disturbances offered as a track · unverified

Richard Godfrey reports ~130 disturbances over the southern Indian Ocean, currently terminating in a 30 km-radius circle near 29.128°S 99.934°E. Not an official sensor. Not peer-reviewed.

HypothesisDisputed

Mechanical / cargo-fire failure

Official report: no identified failure mode fits

A running systems failure that also produces a coherent reverse course and six more hours of SATCOM is a poor fit. Lithium-battery cargo was reviewed and not adopted as cause.

Can the Motorola and mangosteen cargo be rebuilt at carton level?

Working-log Q28–Q35: airway bill 232-10677085, Motorola SKUs, whether radios/transmitters were present, CG effects, and why the Motorola consignment was not X-rayed.

Secondary radar lost

17:21:13 UTC

Mode S transponder returns cease. Primary (military) radar continues to paint an unidentified westbound track consistent with MH370.

What was actually fitted on 9M-MRO — SDU, FMS, data buses, 2012 Shanghai repair?

The remote-control board’s forensic finding: need the MAS engineering record, service bulletins, SDU upgrades, avionics and data-bus software versions, and a breakdown of the 2012 Boeing wing-tip repair at Shanghai, before anyone can say a control path physically existed on this tail.
