Most expensive aviation search. Surface 4.5 million km² in 2014; ATSB 120,000 km² underwater; Ocean Infinity 112,000 km² in 2018 and a 15,000 km² 2025–27 box. No main wreckage.

Wikipedia’s search article, cross-checked with ATSB AE-2014-054 and MOT 2026: 8–12 March 2014, 40 aircraft and two dozen vessels in the South China Sea / Gulf of Thailand / Malacca / Andaman, oil slicks negative, satellite objects not recovered. 18 March–28 April 2014 Australian-led southern Indian Ocean surface search, area shifting by hundreds of kilometres as Inmarsat/BFO was refined, >4.5 million km² flown, no confirmed debris. April 2014 ULB hunt (Ocean Shield, Haixun 01, HMS Echo): detections later judged not from the recorders. Bathymetry then 120,000 km² of sonar, 6 October 2014–17 January 2017 (GO Phoenix, Fugro Discovery, Fugro Equator, others). 2018 Ocean Infinity Seabed Constructor ~112,000 km², no-find-no-fee, nothing. May 2024 proposal; December 2024 Malaysian in-principle approval of 15,000 km², ~US$70m if found. Phase 1 25–28 March 2025; weather pause; Phase 2 31 December 2025–23 January 2026 on Armada 86 05; MOT 8 March 2026: ~7,571 km² of the box, no wreckage. Cabinet 29 June 2026: remaining 7,428.54 km² to 30 June 2027. Empty boxes are information. They are not a cockpit finding.
