Iranian. Travelled on MH370 using an Italian passport stolen from Luigi Maraldi. Later identified by name. The official investigation treated him as a likely asylum seeker, not as a hijacker.
Mehrdad was one of two Iranian men on the flight. The published nationality summary listed an Italian passenger because that was the document presented at KLIA. Interpol and Malaysian investigators established the passport belonged to Luigi Maraldi, from whom it had been stolen. Identity: Iranian. Travel document: stolen Italian. That is a confirmed fact of who was on board. It is not, by itself, a terrorism finding.
