Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, a Boeing 777-2H6ER registered 9M-MRO, takes off from KLIA runway 32R bound for Beijing Capital International Airport with 227 passengers and 12 crew.
The scheduled night service MH370 / MAS370 pushed back from Kuala Lumpur International Airport and became airborne at 16:42 UTC (00:42 Malaysian time on 8 March 2014). The aircraft was 12 years old, powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent 892 engines, and had no outstanding airworthiness issues identified in the later safety investigation that would explain the diversion. Fuel on board was sufficient for the Beijing sector plus required reserves — and, as later SATCOM analysis showed, enough remaining endurance to reach the southern Indian Ocean. The flight was cleared to flight level 350 via waypoints IGARI and BITOD on the planned airway into Vietnamese airspace.
