Jeff Wise: northern hijack to Kazakhstan, BFO spoofed
2015 New York Magazine thesis, restated in Netflix episode 2 and in Finding MH370 “Landing MH370.” Keep BTO, discard or spoof BFO, fly borders, land on a long Central Asian runway. Requires the African debris field to be explained away.
Landing MH370
Jeff Wise · Finding MH370 S1E27 · 28 November 2024 · 45:12
The northern-landing telling: discard or spoof BFO, keep BTO, fly borders, land at a long Central Asian runway (Wise’s 2015 candidate was Yubileyniy / Baikonur). Requires the African debris field to be explained away.
The Debris Swarm
Jeff Wise · Finding MH370 S1E19 · 15 November 2024 · 39:26
After six months with only the Réunion flaperon, a cluster of western-Indian-Ocean pieces appears in 2016. CSIRO reverse-drift and barnacle work are the scientific spine; the swarm’s timing is the puzzle Wise keeps open.
The Remarkable Blaine Gibson
Jeff Wise · Finding MH370 S1E21 · 18 November 2024 · 52:58
Wise’s case against treating Gibson’s beach finds as ordinary luck: “No Step” in 20 minutes on a Mozambique sandbar; a Madagascar piece appearing between two passes of a TV crew; village objects later identified as 777 interior.
Jeff Wise
Aviation journalist · Finding MH370
CNN-era MH370 analyst. Author of the 2015 northern-hijack / spoofed-BFO thesis. Host of Finding MH370. Treats the default pilot-suicide search as a failed prediction because the wreck is still unfound.
Could the Inmarsat BFO have been spoofed?
Wise’s northern path stands or falls on this. Inmarsat and ATSB treat BFO as a physical Doppler residual. No public demonstration has shown a 2014-era 777 SDU emitting a false BFO while keeping a consistent BTO.
MH370: The Plane That Disappeared
Netflix · three episodes · March 2023
Louise Malkinson’s three-part series gives one episode to each of three tellings: the pilot, a Russian hijack (Jeff Wise), and a US intercept (Florence de Changy). Families and Malaysia Airlines crisis staff are interviewed. It is a survey of hypotheses, not a finding.
Blaine Gibson
Independent debris hunter
Recovered several western-Indian-Ocean pieces, including the Mozambique flap-track fairing. Finds sit in the Malaysian debris tables at various confirmation classes.
BTO range rings and BFO Doppler residuals
Inmarsat / Ashton et al. · Journal of Navigation
Burst Timing Offset describes distance from the satellite (an arc on the Earth). Burst Frequency Offset encodes relative motion and is why official analysis went south, not north.
Engine-cowl fragment — Mossel Bay
South Africa · March 2016 · “Roy” piece
Rolls-Royce engine-cowling part recovered near Mossel Bay. In the debris tables at a high-likelihood class. Drift timing is one of the awkward pieces in CSIRO’s work.
MH370 Disappearance: Minute by Minute
Licensed 53-minute feature · 2025–26 reprints
The same ~53:13 timeline film appears under DocuReal, Spark, Wonder, Real Stories and Progress with new title cards. Content is the public night: 00:41 takeoff, 01:19 sign-off, Malacca radar, Inmarsat, African debris.
Quiet Exodus: HA08 was blinded on purpose — not established
Outage confirmed · deliberate cut not shown · depths argue against UCT-2
The thesis treats the March 2014 HA08 North cable fault plus UCT-2’s presence as an acoustic blackout for MH370. The outage is real. The published UCT-2 task is near-shore anode work. HA08 South and HA01 kept listening. Deliberate blinding remains a hypothesis.
Right-wing flap-track fairing — Mozambique
Item 2 · stencil 676EB · almost certain
Recovered at Daghatane Beach. MAS maintenance stencil. ATSB: almost certainly MH370. Independent finder: Blaine Gibson.
